First Sunburn of the Spring!

I guess it isn't technically spring yet. And considering as how we're likely to have it snow at least 4 times between now and the real spring....
Anyway, we've been having crazy good weather lately. So I've been running again--yay for running! I'm a bit slow, but definitely doing ok, considering. I went for a run yesterday and then we sat outside and had a picnic and watched Kaelan play for two hours. When I went inside, I had a sunburned nose and legs! Amazing. Nothing bad, just faintly pink. I'm sure it will fade very soon, but I've already had many comments on it from people wondering what I was doing to get a sunburn.
Kaelan and I are officially roomies for the rest of the month. Kat's mom and sister are here from Germany and they are in my room, so I'm sleeping on the top bunk and Kaelan is on the bottom bed. I figured he'd be too excited to sleep last night, but he zonked right out. And sucked his thumb all night long. That's all I could hear, suck suck suck. He didn't even budge when I got up this morning to go to work, so at least he'll be easy to not wake up.

Obama Wins Wyoming

There was a big headline on Yahoo tonight saying Obama won Wyoming! I didn't get to caucus for him, but I'm still excited.

Obama and Clinton

Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton came to Casper yesterday, since today is the caucusing--by the way, what is the origin of that word? Anyway, Kat and I decided we should go listen to them both as it would be an amazing experience to see the two of them in person and be able to compare and contrast their points and better make a decision as to who should be the next President. There is no doubt in my mind either one of them can beat McCain.
We got the last two tickets to see Obama and were just psyched on Thursday. We got there at noon on Friday and only waited in line for ten minutes before we got really good seats. We had to sit there until 2, but we people-watched and talked and the time flew. We also had Kameron with us, but he was asleep for all of it. They had tied all the chairs together so you couldn't move them, but apart from that, it was a very comfortable deal. We had good seats and could see Obama very well when he came out on stage. It was exciting, too! The entire atmosphere fairly crackled with political excitement. I'm not one for politics, but you couldn't be immune to this! All these old people were wearing 'Wyoming for Obama' T-shirts and looking all jacked to be there. It was cute.
My initial impression of Obama has been that he seems to have a lot on the ball, good points, good person, whatever. In person, he's charismatic and everything he says really rings sincere. You can't help but believe him when he says he wants to change all these things and make a difference. I liked what he touched on, the points about everyone being able to get money for college if they do some community service, how realistically he looked at the national debt and admitted it won't be solved in a jiffy but that some things just have to change to get it there, the tax relief money being given to everyone regardless of tax bracket needing to go away, health care just being way too much for many people to afford--he also touched on taking away the 'pre-existing conditions' which is a biggie. I know from working for Precision that so many people with a prosthetic cannot get insurance because of their 'pre-existing condition' and that is crap. And then bringing home the troops from Iraq, but doing it in such a way that the country itself doesn't collapse or try to kill our boys even more.
Obama is a wonderful public speaker, very sure of himself, never loses his spot. I liked him. All in all, it was very well done and I was impressed with how his people ran the rally. Of course security was tight, but that is to be expected.
Then we headed over to Hilary's. We stood in line for almost two hours because they didn't request tickets and anyone could get in. Then we find out that it's standing room only and it won't start until after 7. At this point we've been there since 4:30, standing the entire time and taking turns holding the chunky-monkey. We did meet a lady who worked at the Rec Center and she gave us all the behind-the-scenes stuff with Obama, how they got the place, how hard they worked to set it all up, and meeting Obama himself. It was very interesting.
We made it in at 6:30 and then had to wait until 7:45 because Hilary Clinton was late. Kat and I gave up our spot in the front and went to sit in the back of the gym because we could see just as well from back there and we didn't have to stand shoulder to shoulder with people who looked like zombies because of the strange overhead lights. I'm serious, it leeched the color until everyone looked blue-veined, blue-lipped, and then yellow. It was creepy. They also took away our food and water, so now I was starving, my feet hurt, my back hurt, and Kameron was getting heavy. I was already pre-disposed against Hilary Clinton, and her crappy rally pushed me over the edge.
Hilary rolled in about 7:45 and spoke for half an hour on the exact same things Obama did! I'm serious, they have the same platform. They might as well be running together. No wonder the race is so close! The wording may have changed, but the points are the same. Community service for college money, taking out Bush's tax relief plans, bringing home the troops carefully, health care needing to be cheaper, etc. Kat and I were just amazed the more she spoke.
I think it all comes down to your personal preference. If these two both are going to do what they say they will, we'll get those changes regardless of who's elected. I'm still going for Obama. For one thing, he didn't make me wait on my feet with no food or water to listen to what he had to say. Go Obama.
I never did find out the origins of the word caucus, but it is mentioned in Alice and Wonderland, so that's something.

My zany adventures anywhere and everywhere.
